Monterosso Day 2

Breakfast at our hotel was a rather extravagant affair with even Mortadella and brie - besides the usual. I was disappointed that there was no foccacia, despite their big spread. Ah, but you could have as much cafe as you wanted - a definite plus!
On the train again, 15 minutes up the road to town #1 Riomaggiore. After a brief visit, we headed over the easy trail, the Via dell'Amore which leads right into town #2 Manarola. After a brief stop for a piece of foccacia (I had been deprived earlier), we headed up to the cemetary - for the fantastic views of the town. After a photo shoot, we decended down, on the train again and over to Vernazza.

Lunch in Vernazza - pizza with pesto! We ate our pizza and drank our Coke at the harbor, then walked around the corner to the rocks - where one can sunbathe - or sit and cool off your feet. I chose the later, and after my desinated rock time, left Jim there and went off shopping. A few souvenirs - bags of trofie (pasta only available in this shape here in Ligure region), a tiny jar of pesto for myself as Jim doesn't like it and couple other small things for those at home.
Back on the train, 5 minuto and we are home in Monterosso. A brief rest on the balcony, shower (when you shut the water off it still sounds like it's on (it's the sea!) - and while stepping out of the shower you can not only hear but see the Mediterranean practically at our doorstep.
Last night before leaving Vernazza we made reservations for Gambero Rosso's, next door to Gianni's. We will leave here in a little while for drinks on the harbor before we eat at Gambero's. Vernazza's harbor is tiny, faces the square - all of this I'm talking about is tucked in a tiny little area.....and this is the beauty of my most favorite place.
